Pain and Outrage All Around the World

The national and global news that was dominated by COVID-19 since February has been surpassed by the news of the death of George Floyd on May 25, and the subsequent pain and outrage all around the world. The staff and leadership of St. Vincent Hospital are deeply saddened by this tragic, unjustifiable, and needless loss of life.

It’s a pivotal time in history and it prompted us to reaffirm our seven foundational core values. They are: Respect, Unity, Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Patient-Centered Care. Our team lives by these values.

As a place of healing, St. Vincent’s role is to steward the wellbeing and strength of our community. Our vision for a healthy community is one in which every person has access and the right to reach his or her highest potential for the health of body, mind, and spirit. We honor the sanctity of all human life and embrace equity, diversity, and inclusion. We actively seek ways we can improve and we denounce every form of racism, bigotry, and discrimination, whether tacit or explicit.

St. Vincent Hospital serves the rural area of Lake County and North America’s highest city of Leadville, Colorado. In 1879 the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Kansas opened Leadville’s hospital to care for the hardscrabble miners that were drawn to the community. Now celebrating over 140 years, St. Vincent Hospital continues the tradition of caring for the residents and visitors of Lake County and surrounding areas.
